A few points:

- Those that were experiencing issues viewing their friends page *should* be able to view them now. I have identified the problem, and after discussing possible resolutions with another LJ-clone sysop I have gone ahead and made the fix. If you feel that you were inconvenienced by this problem, please leave me a comment and I will give you 2 months of paid account for free.

- As many of you are aware, LiveJournal will no longer allow you to create an account without ads. While the [info]news journal is -not- my area to express my personal opinion, I will just say that I have no intention of following in this decision, and that you may turn on/off ads for any account at any time via the console here at LostJournal. My belief is that if you like LostJournal and want to help the site, you may, at your own discretion, turn on the ads or even buy an account. I will not force users to view ads. That's simply something that I do not agree with, and something that you will never see here at LostJournal.

That's all for now. I am still working with a few errors here and there, but will hopefully have everything resolved by the end of my Spring Break.

Take care all. Comments are enabled so have at it.

How do I do that? (I'm... exceedingly new.)

Erm, by "that," I mean "turn off ads." It's ... not very clear.

Quite simple, actually:

From the console (http://www.lostjournal.com/admin/console) execute this:

set disable_ads 1

Thanks. I disabled them, but I intend to buy an account anyway. I'm epileptic and while I've yet to have one cause a seizure, some of them do cause migraines.

You're welcome! I finally figured out what the issue was (long story short - 32 bit vs. 64 bit)

Dear Steve,
I tried your suggestion just to see it work. Pretty cool! However, I dun mind seeing the ads on the part that isn't my journal, so I put them back. I never knew how to use those commands. Thank you. :)

You're welcome! It's not one of those commands I would put on the front page, however, I have no problem letting people who use the site know what the command is.

I'm glad to hear LoJ is totally different when it comes to that.

I like this place more already.

Good on you. I'm here from LJ (at the recommendation of our very own [info]quiara up there), and I think I like it so far. Things are much less cluttered, even with ads, so for now I'll be leaving the ads on, at least until I decide to pony up the $$$. I'm permanent over at LJ, but their business practices are just starting to fly all over me, not to mention the VEHEMENT disapproval of SUP by my FIL the corporate consultant. The whole thing gives me the willies, so I hope to find a new home here.

Bonus points for the Penny Arcade heads all over the place! What's up with that?

When we started LoJo both [info]remark and myself were (and still are) fairly devoted Penny Arcade fans. A number of their comics feature a lot of IT jokes and such, so when we had our first server, we named it Gabe. After awhile we needed to expand, so along came Tycho. We actually charted it all out a long time ago, if you're interested. As I said, this is fairly old (Gabe is now a virtual server on Jesus, Perlbal runs memcached, Jesus is now the Master DB server and our offsite server is in St. Louis). I should make a new picture one of these nights when I'm not bogged down with assignments.

I hope you enjoy it here! It's got a nice cozy feeling, which is something I don't want to let go of.

Oh, I do so love naming schemes. My own computers & gadgets are all Matrix-named. I'm a Penny Arcade fan myself, and with a server named Jesus, how in the world could anyone ever leave? ^o^ The guilt involved!

"Leave LoJo and burn in hell..."

So, erm, where do we find people around here? [info]addme is kinda dead and I"m a freak with non-matchy interests. ^_^

Yeah. I just did the "find ppl with matchy interests" thing on myself, and guess who came up first? We really must be the Borg.

Hi, and thanks for taking the time to make clear your position on the matter. Very kind of you to reassure us.

Two questions, if you're not too busy:

1. Is there or might there be in the future a way to customize the ads?

While I'm happy to support the site by viewing the ads while I make changes to my journal, and I have no objections to them being shown on my userinfo, I'd rather not see them on the actual journal entry pages because they're rather obtrusive.

It would be nice to be able to turn them off for just that portion of the site, or perhaps have the option to replace the current brightly-coloured images with some less glaring text ads.

2. Is LiveJourbal.net no longer being maintained?

It used to be my primary journal until it disappeared earlier this month and I'd like to know if I can ever expect it to come back.

Never too busy! (Well, actually I am horrendously busy, but..)

1 - Interesting idea! I will put that down on my todo list to investigate whether it's possible.

2 - It is, sort of. It's back up right now, and I apologize profusely as I forgot to hit "Start" on the application. I may, in the future, do some work on LiveJourbal when time and money are not as tight as they are right now. I am a full-time university student, and while I appreciate the culture and people over at LiveJourbal, LostJournal is where my heart and soul is. Bottom line is that LiveJourbal is not going away - it just may be awhile before you see some development over there.

Anything else I can answer for you? :)

Many thanks for your prompt response, especially considering how swamped you must be.

Thank you also for restarting LiveJourbal. I'm perfectly fine with it not being worked on as much, just as long as it still works.

No, no further questions, and I do appreciate your taking the time to answer the ones I had.
