Hi there!

In the next few minutes I am going to be gracefully shutting down the LostJournal servers and moving them approximately 1 mile to a new serving location.

This really shouldn't affect very much. I will be watching this very carefully while this all comes back up. Estimating a 3 hour downtime window (+ or - 1 hour).

Hello all!

In about 10 minutes I am going to move the database to read-only mode in preparation for a code push tonight at midnight (20 minutes from now - 12:00am MST).

We are going to do this in stages as this is a fairly major push. I will update this, as well as make a news post as soon as this is complete.

Just FYI that I will be kicking the entire site over to read-only in about 10 minutes as I move the database to backup.

This should take 20 minutes as this is going between networks.

Downtime

Hello again!

We will be adding a new server tonight in order to keep up with the surge of new accounts. In order to do this we must take down the database and relocate it onto this new server. We are planning to go read-only at 1:50am, followed by shutting down the main DB while we relocate it to a different machine. Estimated downtime is at 15-20 minutes as we verify the data and ensure that all servers are pointing at this new machine.

If you have any questions or concerns please leave a comment and I will do my best to answer your questions regarding this outage.

Hi All

I am going to take the site down in about 10 minutes in an attempt to kick the DB server into working (it will not keep time, which is rather annoying for both you guys and us!)

In about 5 minutes the site will be read only, and from there the site will be inaccessible. I hope to have less than 15 min downtime.

Hello!

Our current Global DB (appropriately named ff2000) seems to be acting up so in about 5 minutes I will be flipping a switch and moving all traffic to a new DB for the time being to try to sort out the issues with ff2000.

I hope to keep this as short as possible, as downtime sucks and we avoid it like the plague.

Hi everyone!

It's Steve, your friendly System Administrator. Just to let everyone know I will be switching the entire site over to read only in about 15 minutes (11:45 MST) for a full DB backup. During this time you will not be able to update, however most journals should still be accessible to read. I anticipate this to last no more than 5 minutes.

Hello All!

Over the last few weeks we have been working on known issues, as well as working on new features which will enhance the experience at LostJournal.com

In order to complete the work we must bring down the site, starting with Read-only at Midnight tonight (MST), followed by an outage that will last from 10 min to an hour (we are hoping for 10 minutes).

There are a lot of new features being added, and a news post will be following on the 1st (and to clarify right now - it is not an April Fools joke :).

Downtime

As you may, or may not have noticed we suffered a power outage at approx. 9:20pm MST last night. Unfortunatley our systems are not backed up with a UPS, so all the servers turned off with this power bump.

Service was restored at 7:30am, and all systems checked out.

A UPS has been ordered and will be installed within the week. :)

The entire site will be unavailable from 3:00am MST to 3:30am MST. During this time we will be updating our server platform, as well as applying any updates and patches available.

The main cluster will be read-only at 2:55am MST in order to prepare for this upgrade.

At 7:00am PST the entire site will be read-only as the database is backed up to an off-site location. We do this on a regular basis, however we want to ensure we have an accurate and complete backup. This should take no longer then 30 minutes.

During this time you may still view entries, however you cannot post nor can you make new comments.

After a very brief conversation with a developer, I discovered the problem we were having. Basically, outdated code = very bad.

So, the Schools system is working perfectly! You may now submit schools, and they will be approved (in due time, of course!)

I have successfully updated from CVS last night/morning (it took me awhile). The only outstanding problem we have is the schools feature is broken. I will be working on it throughout the day, but I need to get some sleep now.

Downtime

If you were trying to access the page between 11am and 12pm PST (3-4pm EST) you may have experienced some errors. This morning we added a new Gigabit network card to the Master server, which took longer than expected. We are back up fully now, and we now have both the servers communicating at 1000mbps :).
